What is the Secret History of the Vedas?
Greetings all and welcome to the inaugural blog of my Newsletter, “All Things Hindu … and More.”
I am the author of a book series, The Secret History of the Vedas. The Vedas are a set of the holy books of India---the Rig Veda, the Sama Veda, the Artharva Veda, and the Yajur Veda. In turn, the Vedas spawned an entire body of writings---Tantras, Aranyakas, Brahmanas, and more well known, the Upanishads.
The meaning of the Vedas is “Secret.” What I mean is that past and recent commentaries either concentrated on the meaning of specific words in the Vedas or consisted of vague re-phrasing of the stanzas. These commentaries have gone no further than that to explain the relevance of the Vedas to contemporary topics.
This book series explores that relevance. Yes, the approach taken in the series is to discuss meaning of specific words and symbols, but to apply that meaning to contemporary themes and life. So, one volume in the series is The Vedic Astrologer. This volume applies the meaning of the Vedas to astrology.
Then there is The Vedic Alchemist, which does the same for alchemy.
All About Agni discusses the many expressions of Fire with the Vedic god of Fire, Agni. And so on.
The Vedas were not limited to issues of philosophy, spirituality, or religion. Topics inspired by the Vedas included astronomy, music, politics, governance, society, and more. This is why this Newsletter is called “All Things Hindu … and More.” The topics covered in these blogs will include Hinduism and other cultural and topical issues, movie, and book reviews.
The common denominator to these blogs will be the Vedas and their secret meaning. The individual volumes in this series is The Vedic Dharma, 1000 Names of Soma, All About Agni, The Vedic Astrologer, and The Vedic Alchemist.
I will endeavor to post a blog once a week.
There are forthcoming titles in the works. They include two volumes on the relationship of Hinduism to Karl Marx called The Yoga of Karl Marx and Dialectical Immaterialism. There is also a book of Tantric Visualizations and Meditations, and a volume entitled The Vedic Astrophysicist.
Paid subscribers will receive Sneak Previews of these forthcoming books in weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly installments. Paid subscribers may also receive at their option weekly installments of the first volume of this series, The Vedic Dharma. Simply let me know by email what is your preference.
The topic for next week? Exactly what is this thing called “the Vedic dharma.” Stay tuned … and don’t forget to subscribe.
